4/13/23 – Fort Davis, TX
My partner Jim and I are traveling out West in a luxe camper van he spent three years lovingly building out. My condition for joining him was that I have the time and conditions to work on my own magnum opus – a book about psychedelics in older life. So far, it’s working out.
A main theme of the book is “elderhood” – and how my generation of baby boomers is rejecting societal norms and entering older age on our own terms. We’ve already seen it in memes – grey-haired grannies doing yoga handstands and grampas puffing on spliffs.
But in all seriousness, the opportunity we aging boomers face is much more profound.
Throughout history and across cultures, older age is recognized as a time of spiritual deepening. I believe that the aging boomers are going to reclaim that legacy.
In countless initiatives large and small, the emerging “conscious elderhood” movement invites us to embrace this time of life to fulfill our destinies, find meaning in service, savor our relationships and marvel at the miracle of having been given life on this earth.
My book suggests that, at this historic moment – when psychedelics are slowly making their way back into the mainstream – the opportunity to safely and intentionally expand one’s consciousness could contribute to that movement.
On this site I’ll be sharing insights from my writer’s journey – and the journey out West – and I invite you to join me!
And if you have thoughts about psychedelic journeying in older age that you’d like to share, please reach out to me at abbieros@gmail.com. I’m all ears!

Buon viaggio !!!
Awesome idea.
And… as someone who has experienced some difficulties relating to the younger generation of psychedelic enthusiasts, i welcome this opportunity to connect with people more my age (born in 1959).
All the very bestest !!
