Some 50 million Americans suffer from tinnitus, the perception of noise or ringing in their ears. Aging is the primary cause for this condition, but it can also stem from head and neck injuries, acoustic shock or viral and vascular diseases, among many other factors. For most people, tinnitus is naturally habituated, but for some it can be profoundly debilitating.
Until now, researchers haven’t addressed the potential of cannabinoid-based medicines to treat tinnitus or hyperacusis (extreme sound sensitivity). But Laguna Hills audiologist Dr. Dennis Colucci, believes that CBD may play an important role in helping sufferers find relief, perhaps not necessarily from the conditions themselves, but from the stress and anxiety accompanying them.
